Alex Dyrl Watkins Sr, 83, passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 13, 2024. He was born on September 23, 1940.

Alex graduated from Wilton in 1958 and was on his high school basketball team.   He was employed at Murdoch Center for 30 years serving as Purchasing agent.   He was a farmer, Brassfield volunteer fireman, loved riding horses, an avid golfer & Duke basketball fan. His family will cherish many fond memories. Alex never met a stranger and loved all things outside. He never would stay in one place too long, he had to make sure the community and neighbors were all good.

He was a member of Peace's Chapel Baptist Church then joined Banks Methodist Church.

Alex is survived by his wife, Jean W Watkins of 59 years.   Four children Andrea W Bullock (Todd), Dyrl Watkins (Kathy); Gina W Brewer (Rob) and Brian Watkins (Wendy).  He was the grandfather to six grandchildren: Justin Bullock,  Dustin & Hayley Brewer, Bailey & Greyson Watkins, and Adyson Watkins.

He is preceded in death by his parents,  Edward Lee Watkins and Allie Thomas Newton Watkins and a  brother Thomas Edward Watkins, nephews Craig Watkins, Eddie Watkins, and Kevin Newcomb.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Newcomb; and many nieces and nephews.

Alex had loving caregivers, Emma F Perry, Martha Overby, Rhonda Schwarze; & Ruby Hesler

The family will receive friends at the home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 12:30-1:45 pm at Banks Methodist Church followed by a memorial service at 2pm by Rev. Anita James-Carnes and Rev. James Shelley.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Banks Methodist Church - PO Box 1276, Creedmoor NC 27522
