Obituary

Allen B. Adcock, age 85, of Oxford passed away at home on Friday, September 6 after a lengthy illness. Born in Granville County on May 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Jack and Nettie Yancey Adcock. He graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1957. He joined the Army Reserve in his junior year of high school, was active duty at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and served 15 years in the Army Reserve. His career included working for Imperial Tobacco Company and then at Union National Bank for 15 years, where he worked his way up to Assistant Vice President. While at the bank, he also worked part-time at Eakes Funeral Home. After his banking career, he became a partner at Eakes Funeral Home for several years. He then went to work at Kinderton Country Club in Clarksville for 10 years. After obtaining his Golf Superintendent license, he served as superintendent at Thorndale Country Club and South Granville Country Club for 15 years.

Allen was an avid golfer and played until his health declined. He was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon as well as Secretary and Treasurer of the Men's Brotherhood for many years. He was a member of the Oxford Civitan Club and a member of the Granville County Rescue Squad, serving as Secretary and Treasurer for many years.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery officiated by Rev. Joe Don Cooper and Rev. Cam Ford. Following the service, the family will receive friends at Delrayno Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Betty Jean Minor Adcock; daughter, Debra Adcock Weary (Randy), and son, Rickey Adcock (Cori); four grandchildren, Trent Brummitt (Maggie), Paige Brummitt, Clay Brummitt (Taylor) and Riggs Adcock; and six great grandchildren, Evan Brummitt, Olivia Brummitt, Tyler Morrison, Trent Brummitt II (TW), Carter Glenn and Pait Glenn. He is predeceased by a sister Ada Adcock Mims.

A special thank you is extended to Amedisys Hospice, Beverly Hayes, Tina Chavis and his primary nurse and friend Kalee Edwards.
