Alton J. Howard

Alton Jimmy Howard, 82, of Henderson, NC died Monday, April 11, 2022 at his home.

Born in Chesterfield Co., SC, he was the son of the late Herman Howard and Wincie McCary Howard.

Mr. Howard was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church and was retired from the Vance County School System, where he was employed for thirty-seven years.  He was well known in the Henderson area for making crosses and giving them to people in the community.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald A. Perkinson.  Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving is his wife of thirty-nine years, Mary Anne Jarrell Howard; two sons, Tony Anthony Howard and Ricky Thomas Riggan (Tiffany); six grandchildren, Kayla Deshay Riggan, David Timothy Riggan, Tyler Wayne Vaughan, Austin Thomas Riggan and Tanner Davis Riggan, two great grandchildren, Noah Pablo Roman and Robert John Roman; and one brother, Bennie James Howard. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Howard and Marshall Howard and one sister, Emma Jean Howard.

Serving as pall bearers will be Nick West, Larry Salmon, Tim Short, David Riggan.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Blessed Hope Baptist Church.  All other times, they will be at his home.
