Obituary

Alvin Titus Vaughan, 96, passed away on August 14, 2025. Born on March 13, 1929, in Warrenton North Carolina, he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas Vaughan and Lelia Belle Hight Vaughan.

Alvin is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Margaret N. Vaughan; two daughters, Donna V. Salmi (husband George) and Phyllis V. Mullins (husband Jerry); and six beloved grandchildren: Chris Mullins, Scott Mullins, Dustin Moye (wife Eleanore), Chase Moye, Christina Bullock (husband Robert), Alexis Nosti (husband Marc), and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Lewis Vaughan, Gladys Vaughan, Elizabeth V. Andrews, Virginia V. Aycock, J.T. Vaughan Jr., Clara Dell V. Ramsey, Mavis V. Flemming, and Faye V. Breedlove.

Alvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a jet mechanic. Following his service, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career with J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co., retiring as the factory superintendent in charge of re-drying tobacco.

After retiring, Alvin and Margaret moved to White Lake North Carolina where they lived for over 20 years. Health concerns and the desire to be closer to family then brought them to Cary North Carolina.

A man of quiet strength, steadfast faith and character. Alvin's life was defined by service, hard work, and love for those around him. He was well known for telling his health care workers that he loved them. He never hesitated to share that "he was a proud old vet". After being released from a hospital stay that happened to fall on Veterans Day, he was saluted by a line of doctors and nurses which brought him great joy.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens.
