Barbara "Shirley" Bailey

Barbara Self "Shirley" Bailey, 84, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Henderson, NC died Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Wake Med in Raleigh.

She was the daughter of the late Roy Alvin Self and Sarah Bivens Self, and was the widow of Verlian Roger Bailey.

Shirley was a homemaker and a member of Joy in the Lord Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. L.T. Harris.

Surviving is one grandson, T.K. Yates (Jessica); three sisters, Thelma O'Brien, Betty Harrell (Ben) and Faye Tate (Lacie); and one great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wayne Yates, four sisters, Ruby Lunsford, Edna Barley, Dorothy Cash and Brenda Carswell and three brothers, Lester Self, Marvin Self and Roger Self.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joy in the Lord Baptist Church, 880 Debnam Ave, Henderson, NC  27536.
