Our beloved Mother, Barbara Fox, 88, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022. She was preceded in death by Irv Fox, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by her son Kenny Fox and his wife Melinda of Raleigh, NC; son Donnie Fox and his wife Caren of Marietta, GA; daughter Ellen Combs and her husband Tom of Raleigh, NC; and her sister Nancy Kutz and her husband Alan of Potomac, MD. She was known as "Grandma" to her four adoring grandchildren Laura Fox, Erin Fox, Hannah Fox and Rachel Fox. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was the daughter of Harry & Estelle Weiss of New York City, where she grew up. Barbara married Irv in 1956 after graduating from Women's College in Greensboro. They raised their family in Oxford, NC and lived there for 45 years. They relocated to Boca Raton, FL for over a dozen years, before moving to Raleigh in 2015.

Barbara was very active in the Oxford community. She was a Room Mom in schools, a Den Mother in scouts, and a chauffeur driving her kids to school, sports, Thorndale Country Club and countless other activities. She was a Board member at the Oxford Library and participated in a Book Club for many years with her Oxford friends. She enjoyed time with family and friends. This included playing tennis and golf, reading and taking trips to the beach. In retirement, she learned to play Bridge and spent time at the neighborhood pool while living in Boca Raton.

Barbara will be greatly missed by her immediate family. She was always there for them, and always supportive of decisions they made. As "Grandma", she attended many birthdays parties, plays, dance recitals, soccer games and school graduations in Raleigh and Atlanta. When her young grandchildren visited in Boca, Barbara would have fun activities planned such as picking strawberries, going to the zoo, and shopping at the large flea market .

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 3rd at Sossamon Funeral Home, 106 Clement Avenue, Oxford, NC. 27565. Visitation will begin at 10 am with service to follow. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery 530 Hillsboro Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
