"With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara Anne Palmer Showers, a devoted Christian, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother, on May 21 at the age of 84. Her unwavering faith, boundless love, and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Barbara was known for her warm hospitality, always opening her home and heart to those in need. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and generosity will be remembered and treasured by all who were fortunate to know her. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Barbara is now at peace, embraced by the love of her Savior. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her."

Born in Madison County, NY, she was the daughter of the late Reginald A. Palmer and Dorothy Loomis Palmer. She was the widow of Arnold N Showers.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor Chapel. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Kay Tyson (John) and Janet Ottariano (Camillo); two sons, Chad Matthew Showers (Judy) and Ronald Mark Showers (Sue); ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, one sister, and three brothers.
