Betty Harris Dickerson, 84, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Maria Parham Health.
Born in Vance County on August 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William Leonidas Harris and Maude Nelson Harris.
Betty was a devoted mother to her four daughters, whom she lovingly raised as a stay-at-home mom. While raising her children, she also worked alongside her husband, Sam, for many years, supporting him in their family business. She was also an asset to her community as she served as the President of the Juvenile Diabetes Association of Vance County, in support of two of her daughters.
Betty was a devout Christian and member of First Baptist Church Henderson where she served on numerous committees. She was a member of Ruth Gardner Sunday School Class, Baptist Women's Study Group, Tuesday morning Bible Study and was a past member of the Henderson Jr. Woman's Club. Later, Betty worked outside the home, where she retired from the Vance County Tax Office after seventeen years of service.
Survivors include four daughters, Susan D. Johnson (Greg), Paula D. Newman (Chip), Leigh D. Ayscue (Rob) and Elizabeth D. Sipes (Justin); eight grandchildren, Kasey Newman Phelan (Tim), Blake Newman, Barrett Johnson (Kate), Anna Johnson, Blair Ayscue, Brooke Ayscue, Chloe Sipes and Harper Sipes; one great granddaughter, Norah Brooks Phelan. Two sisters, Nancy H. Bobbitt and Gayle H. Hollingsworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Christopher Dickerson; three brothers, William Leonidas Harris Jr., Earl Brooks Harris and Britt Nelson Harris; four sisters, Dorothy H. Pernell, Anne H. Coghill, Jane H. Robertson, Miriam H. Ausborn and one grandson Robert "Bobby" Bruce Ayscue III.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Henderson. Dr. Ron Cava will officiate. The family will receive visitation in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ruth Gardner Class for missions.
