Bobby Lee Thompson Sr., 79, of Butner, NC, died Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Pruitt Health-Carolina Point Nursing Home in Durham, NC.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late James Napolean Thompson and Earline Hayes Thompson.  Mr. Thompson was the widower of Julia Young Thompson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Johnny Yount .  Burial will follow in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Norlina.

Surviving are five sons, Bobby Lee Thompson Jr., Richard Obranovich (Lisa), Michael Thompson, (Kim), Kenneth Obranovich (Lisa) and Paul Thompson; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Thompson and Ellen Thompson.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, James "Junior" Thompson and Charles Thompson.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson.

Serving as pall bearers will be his grandchildren, Kyle Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Noah Thompson and Megan Obranovich and his son Paul Thompson.
