Lela Louise "Brenda" Proper Nicks, 85, of Oxford passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Greensboro, NC on November 10,1939, she was the daughter of the late Gaither Cornelius Cagle and Hazel Schular.
Brenda was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church in Oxford.
Private graveside services will be held at Markham Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC on Wednesday February 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Johnny Yount.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Bailey; one son John Nicks Jr. (Kim); two grandchildren, John Nicks III (Kelsie) and Alexis Heather Nicks (Lorenzo) and one stepsister, Linda McBroom. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Nicks Sr. and several siblings.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wildlife Welfare Inc. This is a non-profit organization that she helped her daughter with, so the family has requested to send the contributions to 6593 Sidney Cottrell Rd. Oxford, NC 27565.
