Bruce O'Briant Adcock

Bruce O'Briant Adcock, 80, a resident of Creedmoor went to be with the Lord, April 20, 2024.

He was the son of the late Clifton Graves Adcock and Ella Ophelia O'Briant Adcock. He was a loving husband to his late wife Gloria Jean Adcock.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Butner conducted by the Rev. James Shelly. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Bruce's journey began on December 15, 1943, in Granville County, to the late Clifton (Kitty) and Ophelia Adcock. Bruce was raised in the Goshen community and graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1962. After graduation, Bruce left the tobacco field and borrowed his cousin's car, drove to Jones' Drug Store in Downtown Oxford and struck up a conversation with a customer. From there he hitched a ride to the Recruiting Center in Raleigh. He enlisted that day on June 8, 1962, in the US Air Force. He was discharged on April 15, 1966, with the ranking of A1C (Airman 1st Class) serving as a jet engine mechanic.

After being discharged from the Air Force, Bruce returned to the family tobacco farm but soon realized again farming was not for him. Bruce's work career was diverse; first as a service representative for Olivetti Underwood, Office Equipment, Inc in Roxboro. From there, Bruce was a police officer for the town of Oxford for two years then the town of Henderson for the next two years. Then on to being a machinist with William Newton in Oxford. His long-term work career was served as an Industrial Mechanic, Plant Engineer / Production Supt. and Shop Manager for J-M Manufacturing Company, Inc in Butner, NC for over 32 years.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Gloria and his baby infant sister. Surviving is his daughter Annette Marie Gomez, one stepdaughter; Angela Walls (Scott), five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Mae Hight, Fay Rich, Henry Adcock (Niki), Mary Daniel (Marty), Johnny (Laura), and Curry (Dawn), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Precious (his fur baby) and his Dear friends Frank and Dolly Lemons.
