Catherine P Blackwell

Catherine Pitts Blackwell, 73, of Creedmoor, NC, passed away Friday, November 6, 2026, at The Blair Assisted Living in Cary.

Born in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ray Thomas Pitts Sr and Marian Jeanette Baxter Pitts.

She was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Durham.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Oxford. Conducted by Rev. Mike Benson. Interment will follow at Meadowview Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, James Leonard Blackwell; three daughters, Michelle Callis Dement (Mitchell Helus), Pamela Lynn Provenzano (PJ) and Crystal Blackwell Roberts (Kevin); eight grandchildren, William Tyler Dement (Katie), Dawson Blake Dement (Alexis), Brandon Tyler Brown (Deanna), Madison Hope Brown (Travis), Olivia Faith Brown (Andrew), Silas Isaiah Provenzano, Chloe Grace Roberts and Dalton Ray Roberts; three great grandchildren, Brantley Walker Brown, Oakley Cameron Brown and Kasyn Makay Brown; as well as several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she we preceded in death by one grandson, Cameron Makay Brown; and one brother, Tommy Ray Pitts.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Tyler Brown, William Tyler Dement, Dawson Blake Dement, Kevin Ray Roberts, Silas Isaiah Provenzano and Andrew Faison.
