Charissa Thea Edwards Powell, 70, of Henderson, NC, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Duke University Hospital.
Born in Carlisle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Edwards Jr. and Lawana Wilkerson Bohrer.
Charissa loved the Lord and helping others. She attended South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a nurse for thirty-two years before retirement. She was also a member of the Henderson Master Gardner Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Nalevaiko (Charles); one son, Benjamin Powell; one grandson, C.J. Nalevaiko; one brother, Boyd "Butch" Edwards III (Diane); one sister, Athena Williams (Ray); and several nieces and nephews. Alongside her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Shaun Edwards, and an aunt, Clora Wilkerson.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Interment will immediately follow at Island Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson. For all other times they will be at the home of Ben.
