Charles Nelson Daniel, of Oxford, North Carolina, died peacefully at his home on the morning of Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 67.
Charles was a devoted husband, father and Cha Cha who loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of Dallas Cowboys football and his ability to turn just about any occasion into a good time. He also cherished time spent at the beach and the loyal companionship of his dog, Dallas.
Charles attended Elon College before continuing his education in mortuary science, which prepared him for a lifelong career in funeral service.
As president and co-owner of Eakes Funeral Home, Charles was a familiar and trusted face in the community. He had a special way of making people feel at ease, bringing kindness, comfort and even moments of laughter and joy to the families he served.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan; his children, Allie Daniel and Mary Claire Duke; his grandchildren, Mary Charles Duke and Elizabeth James Wheeler; his sister, Lynn Cox and her husband, Keith; mother-in-law Ann Woodall; brother-in-law Mike Woodall and his wife Wendy and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Mary Ann Daniel and his special father-in-law James Malone Woodall.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at Elmwood cemetery. The family will receive friends after the graveside service and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oxford Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
Charles’s family will forever cherish the love he gave them, the laughter they shared and the many wonderful memories they created together. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
