Charles D Ellis


Charles Dean Ellis, 75, of Emerald Isle, NC, and formally of Henderson, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.


Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Oliver "Bill" Dale Ellis and Nellie Bartholomew Ellis.


After graduating from Aycock High School, Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He was a proud and decorated Marine; he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Metal with Device, RVN Cross of Gallantry with palm and frame, Vietnam Service Medal with 1*, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Rifle Expert Badge.


After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked for the City of Henderson and the Vance County Fire and Ambulance Service. Charles's twenty-five-year truck driving career earned him over two million safe driving miles.


After retirement, Charles stayed busy hunting, fishing, and cooking at "The Shack" with his son and friends at the house on Satterwhite Point Rd. He and Regina enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and summers playing pool volleyball with their grandchildren and friends while cooking for gatherings on Lee Ave in Emerald Isle. Most importantly, he loved his family very much and enjoyed every moment with them.


A memorial service will be held at Victory Baptist Church Henderson, NC on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., Conducted by the Rev. Ricky Easter and Dr. Rev. Donnie Perkinson. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.


Survivors include his wife, Regina Weldon Ellis; one son, Allen Ellis; two grandchildren, Ali Grace Ellis and Emma Ellis; and one sister, Shirley Marker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, OD Ellis.


Sam Watkins, Vernon Mustian, Jonathan Macklin, Mike Pearce, Kenny Fuller, John Cowan, Larry Richey and Gary Fuller will serve as honorary pallbearers.
