Charles Wesley
Pleasants
July 12, 1943 – May 26, 2026
Salem United Methodist Church
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Charles Wesley Pleasants 82, a resident of Oxford, NC passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026 peacefully on his farm with family by his side.
Born in Oxford, NC on July 12, 1943, he was the son of the late John Buxton Pleasants Sr. and Thelma Burchette Pleasants and also the widower of Barbara Ross Pleasants. Charles was a lifelong member of Salam Methodist Church in Oxford, NC.
After graduating from Stovall High School in 1961 Charles then went to work for and retired from the NC Department of Transportation after 34 years of being a motor grader operator and considered one of the best in the state. After retirement Charles also bought his own motor grader and worked part time on is own for a few years. Charles was a perfectionist in everything that he did, whether building the roads in North Carolina, building barns around his farm with his bare hands by harvesting the wood from his own farm, raising cattle, gardening, repairing small engines on lawn mower, and even mowing his grass which he took great pride in. Charles could often be seen every afternoon after laboring all day on his front porch swing, relaxing and waving at those passing by. Charles was quite a historian and could talk for hours about the history of not only Granville County but also the history of our Country as a whole. There as nothing he couldn’t tell you about his family history as well. If you ever had a moment to spend any time with him discussing history you would often find that moment has turned to hours because of his wealth of knowledge.
Graveside services will be held Saturday June 6, 2026 at 11:00 am at Salam Methodist Church by Pastor Josh Woodall.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey Brian Pleasants (Toni) of Oxford, one sister Mildred Jones of Greensboro. He is also survived by two grandchildren Jonathan Pleasants (Grace) and Sarah Pleasants (Jon Whiltney) and two great grandchildren he absolutely adored Jessie Pleasants and Emily Whitney and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong very best friend Kay Starks.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his memory to Salam Methodist Church.
