Chemis Oscar Stanfield, 91, of Creedmoor passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh.
Born in Rockingham County, NC on August 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Oscar Baynes Stanfield and Margaret Chambers Stanfield.
Chemis owned and operated Stanfield's Family Clothing with his wife, Polly, on Main Street in Creedmoor and retired from Northern Telecom. His father, Oscar B. Stanfield, owned Stanfield's Stables in Creedmoor. Chemis honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and carried the American flag in the Honor Color Guard for Brigadier General Anthony McAulifte. He was an avid scratch golfer, a Carolina fan and he loved to dance, especially shag. Chemis was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor with Reverend James Shelley officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Stanfield and Brenda S. Chappell (Joe Watkins); three grandchildren, Caroline A. Chappell, Victoria M. Griffiths (Geoff) and Meredith L. Chappell; two nephews, Danny W. Emory and Steve S. Emory and numerous other neices, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar B. Stanfield and Margaret C. Stanfield; his stepmother, Deloris M. Stanfield; his wife, Polly H. Stanfield; three sisters, Wilba S. McCoy, Earnell S. Aiken and Frances S. Peed and one son-in-law, Gregory L. Chappell.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor.
