Christopher
Bourgeois
April 26, 2024
Christopher Joseph Bourgeois, 45, of Creedmoor, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2024, during a camping trip with his oldest son. He was born on November 19, 1978, to Gary Bourgeois and Shirley "DeeDee" Bourgeois in Marrero, Louisiana. He was a caring son, loving father, devoted husband, and friend to all who met him.
Christopher was larger than life and always had big dreams for himself. He joined the United States Air Force in 1997 where he was able to spread his wings and see new places. After the Air Force, he settled in the Dallas, Texas area where he began his career in IT. Here he met his first wife, and they had one son together whom they adored. They remained friends and continued to successfully co-parent up until the day he passed.
In 2014, Christopher met the love of his life somehow by fate in an online group for single parents. He convinced her and her son to move from Connecticut to Texas to start their journey towards being a blended family and they were officially married in 2019. He loved his wife deeply and took her son in as his own. In 2020, they moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to be closer to his wife's family after his oldest son graduated from high school. They ultimately ended up putting roots down in Creedmoor, falling in love with the quiet countryside and the fireflies that could be seen from their screened-in porch at night.
Christopher was the type of person to never meet a stranger. If you were lucky enough to be part of his inner circle, he'd love you with every ounce of his soul and would do anything for you. He was known by "Bourgie" to his friends and lived up to the name wholeheartedly. Christopher had an infectious personality that you couldn't help but love. He was the type of person that was unapologetically himself, had zero filter, and always wanted to make sure everyone around him was having a good time. He wasn't just the life of the party – he was the party.
He was a lifelong fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers football teams. When he was watching a game, it could be heard for miles around – whether his team was winning or losing. In between plays, he'd be calling his Mom to debate whether the team had made a good call or not, still shouting at the TV in between pauses. Christopher was also a lover of music and was happiest cruising around in his custom Jeep Wrangler "Shy Guy" with the top down, doors off, and blasting his favorite tunes.
In addition to his parents, Christopher is survived by his wife Rebecca Bourgeois; two sons, Zachary Bourgeois (23) and Julian Velez (13); Zachary's mother, Tina Dickerson; one sister Emily (Jay) Henderson; one niece, Jacey Henderson, numerous extended family members, and a host of friends that might as well have been family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Donald Bourgeois, Rita Templet Bourgeois, and Jessie King.
A celebration of life in both North Carolina and Texas will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or Housing for New Hope in Durham, North Carolina, as Christopher was always a big supporter of his wife's non-profit work. Words cannot properly express how extraordinary this man was or how big of a heart he had, and he will be missed incredibly by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
