Obituary

Clarence Fuller “Sonny” Coghill Jr., 89, of Henderson, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Clarence Fuller Coghill Sr and Grace Pleasants Coghill.

Sonny honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for three years and four months. He was a longtime member of Fuller Chapel Christian Church, where he served on various committees. He also served his community as a board member and firefighter with the Bearpond Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed a long and dedicated career with the Mt. Olive Pickle Company.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fuller Chapel Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Patricia Ann Johnson Coghill; three stepsons, Bryan Blaylock (Jenny), Mark Blaylock (Sharon) and Keith Blaylock (Cindy); five grandchildren, J.W. Medford, Chad Blaylock, Kaitlyn Blaylock, Tyler Blaylock and Grace Alford; one brother, Donald Coghill (Faye); and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Hunter and Clarice Watkins.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be T.T. Beckham, Herbie Grissom, Tommy Turner, Wayne Franklin, Wayne Burns and Timmy Coghill.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Fuller Chapel Christian Church, 1470 N. Lynnbank Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
