Connie Mack
Barbee
January 28, 2026
Mr. Connie Mack Barbee, 86, of Durham but moved to Vance County, North Carolina, entered his Heavenly home on January 28, 2026.
Born on July 24, 1939, in Durham, NC, Connie lived a life marked by devotion to his family, to his country, to his community, and above all to his Lord.
Connie married the love of his life, Hilda Elaine Taylor of Durham, and together they shared 63 years of steadfast companionship. Their marriage remained a testimony of faithfulness and commitment right up to Connie's homegoing.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Connie Mack served aboard the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier, an experience he carried with honor throughout his life. After completing his military service, he continued serving his community. He first worked for the City of Durham as a Public Safety Officer, fulfilling both police and fire responsibilities during the years when Durham operated a combined department. When the city later transitioned away from the Public Safety model, Connie Mack continued his service as a Police Officer with the Durham Police Department, carrying the same dedication and integrity into his new role.
Alongside his commitment to service, Connie Mack was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to bring laughter into any room. He enjoyed golfing, cheering on his favorite baseball teams, and traveling, especially when it meant making memories with the people he loved.
Connie Mack loved the Lord deeply. He shared the gospel through song, often blessing others with his voice and his guitar in worship. He was faithful in proclaiming Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a devoted member of Cokesbury Methodist Church in Henderson, NC.
After moving to Vance County, Connie Mack and Hilda enjoyed the quiet beauty of country life, especially the sunsets that painted their evenings with peace.
Connie Mack is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Hilda Taylor Barbee, and their two children: Darrell Barbee and wife Beth, and Cindy Norwood and husband Michael. He was a proud grandfather to: Mr. Allan and Mrs. Erin Barbee; Mr. Phillip and Mrs. Meghan Barbee; Dr. Lauren Crabtree and Mr. Phil Martin; Mr. Tyler and Mrs. Kayla Crabtree; Mrs. Kelly and Mr. Caleb Wilson; Ms. Rebecca Norwood and Mr. Cody Howard; and Ms. Samantha Norwood. He was also blessed with greatgrandchildren Cade, Callum, Cameron, Gabriella, and Colton.
Connie will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his servant's heart, his love of music, and the strength with which he lived his life. His family rejoices in knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Arrangements are made with Sossaman's Funeral Home in Henderson, NC. The funeral will be held at Cokesbury Methodist Church 2440 S. Cokesbury Road, Henderson, NC. The family will receive friends after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
