Curtis A. Powell

Curtis Anderson Powell, 84, of Henderson, NC died Sunday, May 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Robert Anderson Powell and Mattie Weaver Powell.

Mr. Powell was a military man through and through, he spent three years in the US Army, from 1954-1957, where he served in the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper and in 1960, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served until his retirement, 1976. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion Post #60, and was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member of the Prayer Warriors Sunday School Class, the Men's Ministry and the 3 M Ministry.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, at 11:00 am at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

Surviving is his wife of sixty-three years, Dixie Coghill Powell, one daughter, Heidi P. Hughes (Art), three sons, Jeffrey Scott Powell, Michael Rodney Powell and Robert Mitchell Powell (Sarah); one sister, Dorothy Loftin Powell; six grandchildren, Lauren Hull (Jeff), Bailey H. Dickens (Jonathan), Jeffrey Powell, Dustin Powell, Gavin Powell and Austin Powell, and seven great-grandchildren, Harrison Hull, Molly Hull, Charley Grace Dickens, John Luke Dickens, McKayla West, Kinslee Powell and Saleena Powell.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Curtis A. Powell Jr., a grandson, Preston Powell, and two brothers, Larry W. Powell and Lucius G. Powell.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.  All other times, they will be at his home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post #60 P.O. Box 732 Henderson, NC 27536.
