Dannie Jay Autrey Sr., age 69, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. Dannie dedicated his life to loving, supporting, and providing for those he cherished most.
Dannie was born on January 2, 1957. He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Brenda, building a life centered on family, hard work, and love. Together, they raised three children: Tracy Hill (David), Gayla Brogden (Brent), and Jay Autrey (Stacy). He was a proud grandfather to Lee (Shiane), Jessie (Melvin), Kirsten, David (Ashbee), Brentnee (Said), Zoey, Kody, and Addison. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, who brought him joy and pride.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor. Rev. William Wheeler will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
In addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Dannie is survived by his loving mother, Julia Autrey, and his sister, Nita Tulloch, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Autrey, and his brother-in-law, Chuck Tulloch.
Dannie was a man who believed that family came first. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for his loved ones, always placing their needs above his own. Outside of his devotion to family, Dannie had a passion for the outdoors. He found peace and happiness fishing and hunting. Whether sharing stories, teaching life lessons, or spending time with family and friends, he made lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
Dannie will be remembered for his heart, dedication to his family, and strong work ethic. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared and the values he instilled will live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. All other times they will be at the home.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Providence Baptist Church Youth Group, 4603 Old North Carolina 75, Oxford, NC 27565.
