Danny A. Herion Sr., a devoted family man, proud veteran, and lover of the outdoors, passed away peacefully at home on April 19th at the age of 78.

Born and raised in Vance County, North Carolina, Danny lived a life marked by service, strength, and deep faith. He was the son of the late Claude Andrew Herion and Margaret Ann Brantley Herion. He was the widower of Wanda Shoe Herion.

An active veteran of the Vietnam War, Danny proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed by Virginia Homes, where he worked faithfully for many years. Danny was an avid hunter and fisherman who found joy and peace in the great outdoors. Whether he was in the woods or on the water, he cherished every opportunity to connect with nature and share those moments with family and friends.

He was a member of the American Legion and a dedicated member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. At church, Danny was a passionate leader in the Celebrate Recovery program, using his own journey to help others find healing and hope. Danny's legacy of love, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson. Conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens.

Survivors include one daughter, Angie Garrett (Jeff); one granddaughter, Emily Shearin (Joseph); one grandson, Jeffery Garrett (Danielle); one great granddaughter; one great grandson; three sisters, Annette Herion Harrell (Mel), Scarlette Herion Wilkinson and Harriette Herion Butler; five nieces; three nephews and sixteen great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Danny "Andrew" Herion Jr.; and one sister, Claudette Herion Shoemaker.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. At other times they will be at the home.
