D.Gill Clopton

David Gill Clopton, 61, Henderson, NC died Monday, November 14, 2022 at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of Betty Jean Grissom Clopton Lawrence and the late Arthur Thomas Clopton.

Gill loved being a Writer and Photographer especially for all sports and athletic events.  He was the founder of Piedmont Online and the Facebook Administrator for the Vance County Historical Society, Growing Up in The Salvation Army and Remember When (reminiscing about Henderson, NC).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army of Henderson, conducted by Capt. Joshua Keaton and the Rev. Abadan Shah.  Burial will follow in the Clopton Family Cemetery.

Surviving along with his mother, are his step father, Jimmy Lawrence; two brothers, Mike Clopton and Scott Lawrence (Felicia) and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.  Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Lawrence.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home of Henderson.  All other times, they will be at the home of Jimmy and Betty Jean Lawrence 985 Southerland Mill Road Henderson, NC  27537.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Mike Clopton, Scott Lawrence, Jeffrey Clopton, Aron Clopton, Brandon Lawrence, Colton West, Ashton Bartley and Jordan Clopton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Ayers, Marsha Robles and Chris Sparks.

Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Vance Charter Athletic Department 2090 Ross Mill Road, Henderson, NC  27537 or to the Salvation Army of Henderson P.O. Box 2510 Henderson, NC 27537.
