Wilma "Diane" Slaton

Wilma "Diane Dawson Slaton 80, of Oxford, NC, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Upson County Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James Ernest Dawson and Wilma Mauldin Dawson.

Diane was a member of Central Baptist church and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Conducted by Rev. Allen Mustian. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, John Walton Slaton Jr.; two sons, John Slaton (Mary Nell) and James Slaton (Julie); three grandchildren, Johnny Slaton (Megan), Michael Slaton and Melanie Slaton; one great granddaughter, Violet Slaton; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rheunette Aydlotte and Elizabeth Smith; and three brothers, Ernest Dawson, Roy Dawson and Bobby Dawson.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be John Slaton, James Slaton, Johnny Slaton, Michael Slaton, Ryan Arnette and Walter Slaton.

In accordance to Diane's wishes, the family request that no flowers be sent and that no one wears the color black.
