August 4, 2024
Dianne Black Barnette (October 9, 1950 – August 4, 2024)
Dianne Black Barnette, 73, of Durham passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024. She was born on October 9, 1950, to the late Ollie Ferrell Black and Archie Junius Black. Dianne was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Barnette, brother-in-law, Dalton (Irv) Barnette, grandson Jacob Barnette and sister, Lacy Roberts.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor.
As a young adult, Dianne lived in Germany with her husband Bobby during the Vietnam War. While in Germany, she enjoyed her time making friends, visiting neighboring countries and even getting to experience a snow storm up to the roof of their house. After returning from home, she loved being a mother. Her house was always full of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends of all the children, playing the role of second mom to many. A few of her first jobs included substitute teaching and working in the school cafeteria before opening her ceramic shop, Ceramic Knott. Ceramic Art was her passion, she absolutely loved making amazing pieces, teaching classes and sharing her love for this art with her family and friends. Many years after she closed her ceramic shop, she became owner of Leesville Road Mini Mart. She was a staple in the Leesville Road community for many years and Leesville Road Mini Mart served as a place where folks gathered for coffee and were welcomed with a smile.
Dianne was naturally a quiet person but around her children, and especially her grandchildren, she was full of laughs and surprises like winning Cards Against Humanity more than once and dancing with her grandkids. Spending time with her family was what brought her such joy. She loved playing Bingo and was a pro at handling her multiple rows of cards and still blotting missed ones for others at the table. She was a collector of Beanie Babies and loved the thrill of the hunt. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and Goodwill which fueled her love of collecting records, especially The Beatles. She absolutely loved mowing grass on the riding lawn mower. She also enjoyed spending time in the garden ready to pick when she could, shelling peas, snapping beans and canning. Dianne loved her tomato plants, flowers and always enjoyed walking and looking at flowers when she was out and about. She was always smiling.
Dianne is survived by her sister Linda Pearce; children: Teresa Allen (Vernon), Toby Barnette (Pam), Randy Barnette (Sandy); grandchildren: River Price (Kalie), Ridge Price (Tamsin), Alec Barnette, Cole Barnette (Rachael), Karris Stephens (Jesse), Brandin Glenn (Karlee), and Zakry Barnette (Kaitlyn); 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor. Private interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
