Douglas McArthur Jones was born on February 22, 1944, and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, May 20th at the age of 81. He was the son of the late Arthur Lee Jones and Annie Lee Jones. He met the love of his life, Marie, in High School and they married in 1962. He was born and raised in Granville County and graduated from Stem High School. He was of Baptist Faith. Doug devoted his working career in textiles. He spent many years working for Mount Hope Finishing Company in Butner and then moved to Lace Lastic Company, Oxford before his retirement. For many years, he worked as a Supervisor in Dyeing and Finishing and was respected by many for his knowledge and expertise in this field.
Doug was a huge fan of Nascar and for many years enjoyed going to races with his wife, Marie. He also enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends and eventually built their home at Kerr Lake. Doug was well known for making his yearly "Fall" stew which was always enjoyed by many!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor officiated by Pastor Tommy Privette. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens located directly behind Sossamon Funeral Home.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two and a half years, Evie Marie Jones. Together, they raised three children, Deborah Shambley (Ronald), Pam Byrd (Gary) and Doug Jones, II (Kim); grandchildren, Gary Byrd, Jr. (Callie), Josh Byrd (Kalie), Kayla Jones (Zach), Savannah Jones, John Holden (Tara), Greg Kelly (Brittany), Ashley Shambley Potts (Chris); great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Brantley, Kyle, Alena, Dakota, Southerlyn, Katy, Kelissa and Cody; one sister, Polly Kidd; nephew, Chris Kidd, as well as many other nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy Jones.
The family is deeply grateful for the loving care and support provided by Gentiva Hospice of Henderson.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, May 24th prior to the funeral from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Creedmoor and other times at the home.
Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Townsville Fire Department, P. O. Box 2, Townsville, NC 27584.
