Edna Ruth Penny Butler, 83, of Oxford, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at her home. Born in Garner, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Newton Burke Penny and Lillian Mae Montague Penny. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be greatly missed.

Edna loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the bible with others. She was a member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C.

Edna is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Robert Earl Butler Sr., one daughter, Tammy Butler Creech; two sons, Robert Earl Butler Jr. (Peggy) and Paul Jeffrie Butler (Brenda); four grandchildren, Mandy LeAnne Berry (Ron), Shaun Lee Fuller, Jacob Paul Butler, and Heather Butler Johnson (Shawn); two great-grandchildren, Ava Grace Berry and Natalie Reece Berry; one sister, Laura Penny Hamilton and one brother, Roscoe Prince Penny; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Edna is preceded in death by five siblings: N.B. Penny, Joseph (Joe) Penny, Thomas (Tommie) Penny, Frances Bass, and Lillian Ladd.

I felt an angel near today, though one I could not see

A memorial service for Edna will be held on April 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, 5609 Tabbs Creek Church Rd, Oxford, NC 27565.
