Elizabeth Gupton Ellis, formerly of Henderson NC, died on August 16, 2024 at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, NC. Born in Vance County on January 5, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Bud Robert Gupton and Margaret Weaver Gupton, and the widow of Bruce Eugene Ellis.
Survivors include daughters – Beth Gentry (Trip) of Greensboro and Pam Harlow (David) of Henderson; grandchildren – Brittany Rouse (Jason), Hayley Wingard (Bobby), Caroline Harlow and Wes Harlow (Stacey); great-grandchildren – Bryson Wingard, Lacie Wingard, Ella Rouse, and Aubrey Harlow; one sister Merdice Hannon and one brother Charles Gupton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers – Harvey Gupton, Bobby Gupton, Mickey Gupton and Kenny Gupton.
Prior to moving to Greensboro, NC, Elizabeth attended Gillburg United Methodist Church. She served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee, member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and was active with the United Methodist Women. She cooked and delivered meals to shut-ins during their Wednesday night fellowships. After Elizabeth moved to Greensboro, NC, she enjoyed attending the Connections Program at First Baptist Church, where she made many sweet friendships.
Elizabeth was a wonderful and loving Mother to her daughters, Beth and Pam. She was affectionately known as Nana and Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and was famous for her homemade biscuits and chocolate pies. Family was her everything and she enjoyed hosting many family reunions. When Elizabeth was in her 50's, she attended Vance-Granville Community College and received her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree. She worked as a private duty nurse and also worked with Hospice Care. She helped and loved all of her patients and was lovingly known as an Earth Angel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel of Henderson officiated by Rev. Frank Sossamon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the following: Brenner Children's Hospital, One Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157; Clapp's Nursing Center, 5229 Appomattox Road, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313; or Authoracare Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family wishes to thank Nancy Dondero and Sandra Sharpe, who were Elizabeth's loving caregivers. Also, the staff of Authoracare Hospice of Greensboro and Clapp's Nursing Center for their love and kindness.
