Emmett Fenner Hughes Jr., 78, of Henderson, NC died Saturday December 10, 2022 in Burlington, NC.

Born in Vance County on August 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Sarah Ellen Rainey and Emmett Fenner Hughes Sr.

He graduated from N.C. State in 1967 with a degree in Textiles Technology and was a huge History buff and especially liked reading up on the Civil War and WW II and he was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He loved shooting his Black Powder gun and enjoyed researching his family genealogy and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel of Henderson, conducted by the Rev. Johnny Yount.  Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving is two daughters, Sandra Edwards Cates and Angela Dawn Hughes; one son, Richard Bryan Hughes; two grandchildren, Seth Edwards (Whitney) and Kayla Edwards Winnett (Anthony) and one great-granddaughter, Ruby Mae Edwards.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert S. Hughes and Lessie Abbott Hughes.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home.
