Ernestine Elliott Newton, 92, of Oxford passed away Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Brantwood Nursing and Rehab.

Born on May 26, 1933, in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Boss Lee Elliott and Minnie Belle Bray Elliott.

Ernestine attended West Oxford Baptist Church and Enon Baptist Church for many years. She loved cooking and made the best banana pudding and homemade biscuits.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at West Oxford Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Keith Newton (Donna) and Wade Newton; four grandchildren, Christy Ascencio (Avicencio), Billy Newton (Megan), James Newton (Amanda)and Thomas Newton; eight great grandchildren, Brian Ascencio, Chris Ascencio, Malaquias Ascencio, Aubree Newton, Bentley Newton, Atlee Newton, Mackenzie Newton and Oliver Newton; one sister, Maryann Hughes; two brothers, Bobby Elliott and Herman Elliott and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Billy Newton; two brothers; four sisters and two infant siblings.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at West Oxford Baptist Church. Rev. Bruce Beck will officiate. Burial will follow at Enon Baptist Church.
