Ethel A. Hedgepeth
Ethel Arrington Hedgepeth, 93, of 249 General Green Road, Kittrell, NC died in the early morning hours of Friday, June 27, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
Born in Townsville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Coleman Arrington and Mildred Capps Arrington.
Ethel attended Townsville and Middleburg schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Macon D. Hedgepeth in 2012, her brother-in-law and his wife, Odell and Jenny Hedgepeth, and by four sisters, Barbara "Pello" Ayscue (Scott), Jean Walker (Ernest "Bo") Walker, Mary Hawkins (Jesse), Ida Mae Poythress (Marion0 and three brothers, Samuel "Doot" Arrington, Patrick "Pete" Arrington (Edna) and A.A. Arrington "Tootey" (Katie).
Surviving is her daughter Rachel H. Gordon (Charles), nephew, Bundy Hedgepeth, all of Kittrell, one brother, Marion (Big Boy) Arrington (Paulette), grand dog, Julie "G" and all her kitty babies. Aunt "S" is also survived by nieces and nephews, Rochelle and Tim Wynne, Bert and Tammy Edgerton, Lee and Scarlette Walker, Diane and Hoyle Reavis, Sandra and Bryan Carey, Phil and Diane Arrington, Carolyn Smith, Billy Dickerson, Pat Arrington, Jackie Brummitt, Patsy Mitchell, Joan Mustian, Jean Reavis, Marion, Bobby and Janet Poythress. In addition, she has numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews including Zack and Tabitha Morris.
Ethel and Macon enjoyed many years of travel, favorite places being Maggie Valley, NC, Sevierville and Gatlinburg, TN, St. Augustine, Florida, Charleston, S.C. and the Amish Country in Pennsylvania. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing outfits for her daughter and herself. Ethel was an excellent Southern style cook. She always looked forward to her shopping trips with her daughter, Rachel, and sister-in-law, Jenny.
Mrs. Hedgepeth retired from Lenox China, Inc. In 1997. She loved her Lenox family and especially Hallie and Carolyn.
Ethel was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Years ago, she was a Sunday School teacher for the Intermediate Class.
A graveside will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service. All other times, they will be at the home of Rachel and Charles Gordon, 1789 Rocky Ford Road, Kittrell, NC.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Hedgepeth's caregivers with Amedisys Hospice, Shavon Collins, Crystal Cooper, RN, Chiffon Bullock, and Dolly White, RN.
