Evelyn Denise Hite went to her eternal home with Jesus Christ her savior on Sunday, September 27th, 2026, at the age of 72. “Denise” was born to Greely Allen “Matt” Hite and Evelyn Dickerson on July 12th, 1954, in Granville County (Oxford) North Carolina. She graduated from J.F. Webb High School in 1972. Denise was a lifelong resident of Granville County, with the exception of the last six years of her life, where she lived near her sister in Rock Hill, SC.

Denise is survived by her sister Lori (Keith) Hawkins of Rock Hill, SC, sister Christine Hite Wood of Oxford NC, a brother Waverly Hite (Kim) of Oxford, NC, her nephew Logan (Taylor) grandnephew Cameron and grandniece Hazel, her nephew Tyler (Kara) Cummings and grandnephew’s Easton and Evan of Candler, NC. Her niece Melissa (Shell) McCain, grandniece Summer and grandnephew Shell Scott III of Rock Hill, SC.

Denise loved Granville County and worked many years in food services at Granville Medical center in Oxford. She was known as a dependable worker who always did her best and someone her coworkers could count on. Over the years, she built many lasting friendships and was known as a loyal friend. Simply put, you could trust Denise.

Denise especially loved spending time with her mother, Evelyn, before her passing in 2016. Most days, she would have breakfast with her mother before going to work. Those simple times together were very special to her. She always looked forward to annual beach trips with the family.

Denise was also known for her directness and her sassy personality – not in a hurtful way, but as part of what made her uniquely Denise. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and those who knew and loved her knew exactly where she stood. Her honesty, straightforward nature, and personality were part of her charm and are things her family will remember fondly.

After retiring in 2020, Denise moved to Rock Hill, SC to be near her sister Lori. These final years of Denise’s life were some of the most rewarding, especially because during this time she grew much closer in her relationship with Jesus Christ. Denise was a Partner of North Rock Hill Church, and very active in her Discipleship group. She loved to go to church and hear God’s Word proclaimed each week. Her relationship with Jesus became an important and meaningful part of her life. She loved her Atlanta Braves, and her monthly Bunco group in Clearview! She loved to go on long walks in her neighborhood and talk to people as she saw them.

Denise loved family gatherings, going to the McCain Ranch for Holiday’s and Birthday celebrations. She loved being surrounded by family, playing with her grandniece and grand nephews, and simply being a part of the celebration. Denise loved to eat – especially dessert and if she didn’t have to cook! These gatherings brought her joy, and she loved simply allowing the people around her to love her well.

Denise was preceded in death by her parents Evelyn and Greely, her brother Thomas Hite, her Aunt and Uncle, Beulah and Sterling Dalton, and her grandnephew Kyson Cummings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Rock Hill Church, Rock Hill, SC.
