Gary G. Abbott

Gary Goodwin (Bud) Abbott, 83, of Henderson, NC died Monday, August 29,2022, at Maria Parham Health.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Ernest Raymond Abbott Sr. and Clara Peoples Abbott.

Gary was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church and was an original member of the Embro Hunting Club.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Nutt and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving is his wife of sixty years, Catherine Riggan Abbott; one daughter, Susan Abbott Currin; three grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Currin Gray (Chris), Kirstin Scott Currin Velez (Justin) and Gregory Chandler Currin; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Kade Gray and Gracelyn Claire Velez; one brother, Ernest Raymond Abbott Jr. (Kay); a special niece, Sherry Kay Abbott Hughes (J.H.); and a great niece, Alexander Abbott Hughes Pailet, and his "Adopted Children", Lowell Wayne Smith and Charlene Smith Lane.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Dawn Abbott and a son-in-law, Gregory Scott Currin.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery, and all other times at his home.

Serving as pall bearers will be David Hight, David Vick, Lowell Smith, Ashley Gill, Robert Gibson, T.C. Powell, Robert Shinkle, Roy Robertson Jr., and Macon Roberson.  Honorary pall bearers will be Rudy Hunt and all members of the Embro Hunting Club.

Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to North Henderson Baptist Church, 1211 N. Garnett Street Henderson, NC  27536.
