George Melvin Grissom Jr., 81, of Henderson passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Born in Vance County on July 27, 1943, he was the son of the late George Melvin Grissom Sr. and Lottie Louise Lowry Grissom. George worked for Vance County School System for forty-two years and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was also a lifelong member of the Henderson Moose Lodge.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Victory Baptist Church. Reverend Ricky Easter and Reverend Frank Sossamon will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens in Henderson.
Survivors include two daughters, Gina M. Johnson (Paul) and Jackie N. Hibbard (James); two sons, Mel Grissom III (John Walker) and Gavin Grissom (Brittany); eight grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Toby Johnson, Luke Johnson, Lexi Edwards, Paisleigh Hibbard, Gunnar Grissom, Reagan Hibbard and Steele Grissom and a special lifelong friend, Ben Hicks Sr. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-four years Lynette Hughes Grissom and one sister, Florence Dixon.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church and other times they will be at the home of Jackie and James Hibbard, 238 Meridian Way, Henderson, NC 27537.
