George Wortham
George Wortham, 76, of 700 Spring Valley Lake Road, Henderson, NC died Friday, August 5, 2016 at his home.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Edward Washington Ned and Ruth Baggett Wortham.
Mr. Wortham was the retired owner of Henderson Travel Agency, a real estate agent, farmer, and carpenter. He was a member of Carey Baptist Church, the B.D. Adcock Sunday School Class, the Henderson Masonic Lodge, and the Henderson Shrine Club. He enjoyed flying his airplane.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Todd Stout. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his loving and caring wife of fifty-eight years, Jane Choplin Wortham; his daughter, Kim W. Ellington and husband, Eddie, of Henderson; his grandson, Dylan Ellington of Greenville, NC; three nephews, Butch Spain and wife, Donna, Brad Spain, and Billy Spain; a great-niece, Jenna Spain; and a great-nephew, Jason Spain and wife, Libby. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara W. Spain.
The family will receive friends at the home of Kim and Eddie Ellington, 770 Spring Valley Lake Road, Henderson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Butch Spain, Buddy West, Mack Choplin, Bobby Choplin, George Parrish, Brad Weatherington, Henry Williamson, and Wallace Greenway. Members of the Henderson Masonic Lodge and the Henderson Shrine Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 637, Henderson, NC 27536.
