Georgia Phelts 85, of Butner, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 01, 2023 surrounded by her friends. She was born on October 5, 1937, in North Conway, NH to the late Homer Raymond Phelts and Odille Dasher Phelts.
Georgia received her bachelor's degree in education from Mercer University in Georgia. She taught High School in GA before moving to Butner where she worked for the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind until it closed and moved to Raleigh. In her younger years she was very active in her church, as a youth music teacher, sang in the choir and played the piano.
Georgia was a Godly woman who loved living a simple life, she loved walking and visiting with her friends along the way. As she walked, she would always pick up litter, she was awarded the Volunteer Service Award in 2018 for her litter pick-up and beautification efforts. She loved the outdoors; she enjoyed listening to the birds sing and she always took time to appreciate all of God's creations. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her sister, Odille Dasher Fraser (Kansas City, MO), 3 nieces & 1 nephew, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.
A Celebration of life ceremony will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Community Methodist Church in Butner.
