Gilbert Thurman Barbour 84, of Oxford, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Hock Family Pavilion.

Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Thurman Barbour and Irene Woodard Barbour. He was the widower of Shirley May Hunt Barbour.

Gilbert enjoyed going to events in the community, especially the ones with live music so that he could put his dancing skills on display. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

The family will receive friends at Sossamon Funeral Home in Creedmoor Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.  A graveside service, officiated by Pastor David Herman, will follow at 1:30 p.m. at South Granville Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Mikels (Mark) and Christy Barbour Arundale (Chuck); one son, Floyd Barbour (Jeannine); eight grandchildren, Jessie Barbour (Cam Daniels), Trevor Barbour (Samantha Minnick), Brian Stone (Lauren Lyon), Chuck Arundale Jr (Christina), Ryan Arundale (Ciara), Kaitlin Arundale (Brian Donegan), Brandon Mikels (Katelynn Cates) and Ashley Glenn; six great grandchildren, Cypress, Axel, Laken, Callum, Caroline and Charlie; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Monnie, Myrtle and Leatha; and two brothers, Donnie and Gilliam.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Mikels, Brian Stone, Trevor Barbour, Chuck Arundale Jr, Ryan Arundale and Cam Daniels.
