Henderson, NC – Gracie Lee Watson Buchanan, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie James Watson and Evelyn Spencer Watson.

A woman defined by her steadfast devotion, Gracie was the beloved wife of the late Nathaniel Thomas Buchanan Sr. for 67 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family. Gracie's career spanned over 40 years at Burlington Industries in Oxford, where she was not only a dedicated employee but also a respected trainer, sharing her expertise and guiding new staff members throughout her tenure.

Gracie's heart was truly at home in her church. A current member of Island Creek Baptist Church, she spent many years at North Henderson Baptist Church, where her love for children shone through as she taught the preschool Sunday School class. She was an outstanding cook who found great joy in serving others; she was a cornerstone of the Hospitality Committees at North Henderson Baptist and later Spring Valley Methodist. Whether it was a Homecoming, a fundraiser, or a special celebration, Gracie was always there working whenever food was served.

Beyond her service in the kitchen and classroom, Gracie's faith was expressed through song. She was a dedicated member of the choir at both North Henderson Baptist and Spring Valley Methodist, where she loved to lift her voice in praise alongside her church family.

She is survived by one daughter, Christy Lee Buchanan; two sons, Nathaniel Thomas Buchanan Jr. and Allan Dale Buchanan; two granddaughters, Sierra Lewis and Miranda Yount; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Lewis. Alongside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Thomas Buchanan Sr., and her brother, Charlie Watson.

Service Information A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Johnny Yount. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and at all other times at her home.
