Harriette
Butler
June 11, 2025
Harriette H. Butler
Harriette Herion Butler, 79, of Henderson, NC passed away at her home on Wednesday June 11, 2025.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Andrew Herion, and Margaret Ann Brantley Herion.
Her love for Vance County and its preservation was one of her greatest joys and pleasures, other than her family, of course. With that love she wanted to make sure Henderson was a city that was kept in its historic beauty. And with that love for history, she also enjoyed antiques very much. She did all she could to help in those efforts and served on the city council of Henderson for several years. People in Henderson will always remember the beautiful buildings that were lit so beautifully during the Holiday season. She was always looking for ways to give back.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the Class of 1964 from Henderson High School where she graduated as most superlative. There in high school she was a proud cheerleader, on the varsity cheerleading squad. It was also there that she fell in love with her husband, Tommy Butler. Their relationship had such an impactful influence on each other's lives as nothing else could. With that special relationship, they became a great team fulfilling each other's dreams. She was a hairdresser by trade but soon found that that was not what she wanted to do any more. Tommy shared with her his wanting to get into the real estate industry, to which they built a very successful business.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Henderson. She enjoyed spending time at the lake by the pool. Mrs. Butler was also an excellent cook!
Her love for Vance County and its preservation was one of her greatest joys and pleasures. She loved Henderson!
Surviving are her daughter, Natalie H. Butler, and Thomas Alvin Butler Jr. (Melinda); four grandchildren, Adam C. Butler, Mason Butler, Cameron Butler, and Sidney Butler; two sisters Scarlette Wilkinson and Annette Harrell (Mel); and other extended family members. Alongside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Alvin Butler Sr., one brother, Danny Herion Sr., and one sister Claudette Shoemaker.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ron Cava. Entombment will immediately follow at Sunset Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
