Iris Blue Simmons, 89, of Clayton, NC and formerly of Henderson, NC died Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, surrounded by her loving family, while holding her husband's hand.
Born in Halifax County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Obie Jackson Blue and Emma Gates Blue.
Iris was past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter 199, past President of the Cullom Association WMU, past member of the Human Relations Committee with the City of Henderson and was a Volunteer at Maria Parham Health.  She was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir for fifty years.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Timothy J. Burgess.
Surviving are her husband of seventy-two years, Raymond H. Simmons; children, Stephen Ray Simmons (Lisa), Phillip Hartwell Simmons (Julie), David Keith Simmons (Beverly) and Alysia S. Wilkins (Daryn); grandchildren, Lexi Simmons, Justin Simmons (Cammy), Lindsey Simmons (Jeffrey), Brandon Simmons (Corall), Ryan Simmons, Tyler Simmons (Sami), Levi Clark, Vanessa Simmons, Ailey Simmons, Jonathan Wilkins and Stephen Wilkins (Alyne); six great grandchildren; siblings, Edward Daniel Blue (Betty Lou) and Adelle Blue Faulkner; along with many special nieces and nephews and extended family members.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey "Dan" Simmons, and her siblings, Belva Harris, Vernon Blue, Clayborn Blue, Henry Blue and Preston Blue.
The family will receive friends at the home of Steve and Lisa Simmons.
