James "Richard"
Brooks Jr.
January 13, 2024
James "Richard" Brooks Jr.
James "Richard" Brooks Jr., (77), of Oxford North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, after his battle with declining health.
Richard was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Christian. He retired from Murdoch Development Center in 2008. Family meant the world to him. He enjoyed every minute he was able to spend with his immediate and extended family. Richard had a strong work ethic and determination to take care of his family. Over the course of several years, Richard overcame several amputations and hospitalizations. He lost his ability to drive and walk and yet never missed opportunities to celebrate with his wife, children, grandchildren, and brothers and sisters. Richard was a quiet, yet wise man who had very little to say to people he did not know; however, he would have given the shirt off of his back to anyone he knew or didn't know if it was needed. He was so grateful for all of the loyal and devoted people who aided in his care over the years. He never let anyone leave without saying, "thank you". To him family was not just an important thing, it was everything.
Richard is survived by his wife, Betty Parham Brooks, of 56 years, his daughters Renee Brooks Kidd (Scott), their children Winston (Tori) and Stoney, and Julie Brooks Finch (Jason) and their children Brooks and Sarah. His sisters, Nancy Brooks Narron (Charles), Rebecca Brooks Tesh and his brother Willie Lee Brooks (Sherry) and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father, James Richard Brooks Sr. and his mother Sarah Peed Brooks.
Richard's family will host visitation at Hester Baptist Church at 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 17th followed by the funeral at 2:00pm conducted by Dr. Randy Bridges and Dr. Jeff Hensley. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brooks Finch, Stoney Kidd, Chris Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Curt Narron, Will Brooks, J.C. Tingen and Charles Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Hester Baptist Church in loving memory of Richard Brooks where he was a devoted member for many years.
