James Homer Hopson Sr., 92, of Butner, NC, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026 at his home.

Born in Washington County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Homer Hopson and Ella Louise McGuire Hopson.

Mr. Hopson was a member of Covenant Life Church in Butner and was also a member of his home church, First Pentecostal Church, in Grovetown, GA. He was a very faithful usher at both churches. He also is an Air Force veteran with ten years of service where he served as a mechanic, then later retired from the J.C. Penny after 27 years as a maintenance Manager.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Schaper (Jake), and Betsy Nunez; two sons, James Hopson Jr., and Tony Hopson (Debbie); thirteen grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and one brother Rick McGuire (Jeanette) of Arkansas. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sonny Hopson; two grandsons, Michael Hopson, and Logan Hopson; one sister, Charlotte Striffler; and one brother Gerald Hopson Sr.

The family will hold a memorial service on a date to be determined.
