JAMES MATTHEW BERRY, JR. MEMORIAL TO MY WONDERFUL HUSBAND OF 33 YEARS PLUS – LOVE AT THE CENTER OF OUR HOME
James loves our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost and we both agreed when we were first married, God was first in his life and mine. He loved sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people who wanted to hear the good news. James showed his love for me, as his wife, Sandra Faye Hendrick Berry, of 33 years as of December 28, 2023, by always including me and never leaving me behind. We loved traveling to the different wards and branches in different locations in the Durham Stake. James was on the High Counsel. On Sunday he was assigned to go give a talk at one of the wards or branches in the Durham Stake which was approximately 9 to 10 different locations. One Sunday he drove up to Barnes Junction Virginia to give a talk. The first time he gave a talk with James at the Chapel Hill Ward location, I took all the time except about five minutes best I remember. James just let me talk and some of the members said they liked my talk. Did not bother James one bit that he only had about five minutes to give his talk.
We moved to Orlando Florida for about eight years. The Orlando Florida Temple was being built when we arrived in Orlando for a week on our belated honeymoon. When we started back home to Durham, North Carolina where we lived at this time. It seemed like we were leaving our home as we were driving out of Florida back to our home in North Carolina.
James and I moved back to Oxford, North Carolina, and as of today have been living here for over twenty years. He was working in the Raleigh, North Carolina Temple in Apex for approximately eight years before he had a stroke in 2014. I gave my two-week notice at my job in Orlando and James agreed to come back to the home/house where I was raised in Oxford, North Carolina. My sister Jane had cancer and was not doing well, and she needed us to come home, we did. Now Jane and David have three grandchildren. Jane and David are doing well and looking great, very happy with her husband David Snipes, their children, and grandchildren.
God brought us together through my Home and Visiting Teachers, a couple in my Ward in Chapel Hill. James and I have five beautiful children, twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. James and I love each other, and we love all our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all our family and friends.
James attended college for his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting at UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He loves history, America and enjoys reading the scriptures.
James likes to think Celestial, me too and we are looking forward to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
I am grateful to God James is no longer in pain. We have had a wonderful life together. Looking forward to the days ahead to see what God has for us both to do in the building up of the Kingdom of God.
Through all of James's suffering, he kept his faith in and love of God, never wavered. God was with James and me 24/7 through suffering. God was with us through all this from 2012 to May 27, 2024, when God relieved James of his suffering. Reminded me of the suffering Job in the Bible went through. Today James is back home with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, and family. James and I experienced miracle after miracle, looking forward to seeing what God has now for us. Looking forward to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ!
Sincerely,
Love in the Lord,
Sandra Berry, James's wife
