James G Waddle Jr

James Gilbert "Quack" Waddle Jr., 78, of Kittrell, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at UNC Health.

Born in Jefferson County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Frances Copeland Robbins.

James proudly served in the US Navy and was a member of the VFW. He served on the USS Intrepid in the Vietnam War.  After the Navy, he worked in construction.  He loved to fish and hunt and he was a die-hard Duke fan.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson. Conducted by the Rev. Charles Anderson. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Survivors include one daughter, Frances Waddle Dement; one son, James G Waddle III (Tonya); five grandchildren, Madison Waddle, Hunter Dement, Faith Dement, Hope Dement and Kelsey Waddle; two sisters, Sue Palmer (Leroy) and Pondra Ayler (Joe Dale); and his longtime companion of twenty-five years, Dollie Stafford, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, William "Bill"  Robbins.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. At other times they will be at the home of Jamie and Tonya Waddle.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Wayne Cash, Hunter Dement, Tommy Lilly, Ludie Creech, Chuck Filippone and Hill Davis.  Honorary pall bearers will be Tom Wrenn, Tommy Wrenn, Troy Ayler, Joe Dale Ayler, John Dement and Greg Anderson.
