Obituary

James Crymes "Jimmy" Wrenn, 88, of Oxford, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Duke University Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Dorsey Hester Wrenn and Mary Frances Wrenn. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Judy Dean Wrenn, his son, James C. ("Jim") Wrenn, Jr. and his wife Martha Anne Wrenn, and his grandchildren James Crymes ("Jack") Wrenn, III and Jacob Dean ("Jake") Wrenn. He is also survived by his close friend Walter Budd; his wife's siblings Roy Dean and wife Gloria and Joyce Critcher and husband Howard and their daughter Jennifer Critcher; and his daughter-in-law's family, Herb and Patti Gregory, Mark and Leigh Gregory, and Lizzie and Bryan Stovall.

He retired as a tobacco buyer from Imperial Tobacco Company and Monk-Austin Inc. His avocation, however, was doing exactly what he wanted to do on his own terms for eighty-eight years.

His family is especially grateful for Betsy Hart, Stephanie Timberlake, Faye Chappell, Queen Venable, Latoya Webb, Pat Webb, Gail LaRue, and Lisa Pettiford who allowed him to maintain his independence and for the care provided to him over the years by Dr. Tom Koinis, Dr. Rich Pacca, Dr. Harvey Marshall, Granville Health System, Dr. David Mack and his team at Maria Parham Cancer Center, and Duke University Medical Center Neuro ICU and Hospice staff. Special thanks also go to Mary Denny and Amy Erwin who have supported the family over the years.

Honorary pallbearers are Luther Brooks, Scott Dickerson, Harold Slaughter, John Brent Currin, II, Mark Gregory, and Bryan Stovall.
Visitation will be at Oxford Baptist Church fellowship hall on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Visitors are also welcome at other times at the home of Jim and Martha Wrenn at 107 Parker Street, Oxford, North Carolina.
