Janet Hoyle Slaughter, 75, of Henderson, NC, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at her home.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late William Hundley Hoyle and Cornelia Williamson Walker Hoyle.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Johnny Yount. Interment will follow at Carey Baptist Church Cemetery.
Janet was a faithful member of Carey Baptist Church for more than forty years before later transferring her membership to Island Creek Baptist Church. She had a passion for music and could often be found playing the piano or organ. For nearly fifty years, she faithfully used her musical talents to serve the Lord and her church family.
More than anything, Janet will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud "Jan Jan," and faithful friend. She had a servant's heart and was always willing to help others, whether it was preparing a meal, offering a kind word, or simply being there when someone was in need. Her kindness, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and generous spirit touched countless lives. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Janet worked at Harriett & Henderson Yarns for more than 30 years. Following the company's closing, she began a career in banking, where she served as Branch Manager at Fidelity Bank in Oxford. After retiring from banking, she worked alongside her husband, Sherby, as secretary at Sherman & Boddie Inc.
Survivors include her husband, Sherby G. Slaughter; one son, Chase Hoyle Stallings (Joy); two granddaughters, Catherine Hope Stallings (Lance) and Lauren Hodges (Brian); one grandson, Hundley Chase Stallings; two great-grandchildren, Patrick Hodges and Allie Gray Hodges; one stepdaughter, Shelley Slaughter Holden (David); two step-granddaughters, Joanna Caroline Holden and Libby Alys Holden; as well as many other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Hoyle Jones, and her first husband, Charles Badger Stallings.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Wilson, Brian Mosley, John Soles, Thomas Shaw, Gordon Wilder, Vernon Mustian, Tim Hunter, Ronald Bennett, and Larry Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Sherman & Boddie Inc.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Island Creek Baptist Church Portico Project, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, NC 27537, or to the Carey Baptist Church Music Department, P.O. Box 637, Henderson, NC 27536.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Mendes and Dr. Pasi for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided to Janet.
