Jean Adams Hughes, 89, of Henderson, died Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Vance County on February 4th, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Thad Adams and Goldie Wilder Adams.
Jean was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved her family dearly and was dedicated to making sure she was in attendance for everyone's special events, games, and performances. Her family was her greatest treasure.
Jean was a buyer for Roses and a dedicated member of the Traveler's Protective Association of America where she served as state president.
Jean was a long-time member of City Road United Methodist Church where she served as the organist and pianist for 72 years. She dedicated her time, talent, and treasures to her beloved church where she spent countless hours volunteering and tending to the needs of others. She was a current member of First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howard Wayne Hughes of the home; her children, Howard Arthur Hughes and wife, Heidi; Joseph Cameron Hughes and wife, Annette; Jill Hughes Kidd and husband, Doug. Her grandchildren, Lauren Hughes Hull and husband, Jeff; Bailey Hughes Dickens and husband, Jonathan; Jade Hughes Westmoreland and husband, Reece; Breea Hughes Bruce and husband, Jack; Joseph Scout Hughes; Douglas Keith Kidd III "Tripp", and Caroline Hughes Kidd. Her great-grandchildren, Harrison Hughes Hull, Charley Grace Dickens, Molly Suzanne Hull, John Luke Dickens, and Rosemary Joy Westmoreland. Her sister, Donna Adams Clayton; niece, Windy Clayton Edwards and husband, Guy; great niece, Whitley Adams Edwards and great nephew, Clayton Thomas Edwards; and special friends Winn Clayton and Susan Robertson.
Jean was cared for by a special friend and caregiver, Juana Ordonez who selflessly provided the very best care of Jean throughout her illness. Juana was a true gift from God and effortlessly provided care with compassion and love.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. George Loveland. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536 or Community Partners of Hope, P.O. Box 1791, Henderson, NC 27536.
