Jesse Augustus Sullins Jr, 88, peacefully passed away in his home in Little River, SC on February 14, 2025.
Jess was born in Asheville, NC on January 18, 1937. He graduated from NC State with his BS & MA in Civil Engineering. Jess lived in Oxford most of his life but never forgot that he was from the mountains-he loved clogging & going to MerleFest.
He spent most of his career working for city & state governments but was also a teacher & entrepreneur & Army veteran. Jess was an active member of St Stephen's Episcopal Church where he loved being in the choir & participating in all church activities. He was a longstanding Rotarian & Shriner. Jess loved music, playing golf, fishing, & being with his friends around 5:00 in uptown Oxford. Jess never met a stranger & had the best friends. Jess was truly a good guy!
Jess leaves behind his sisters Marguerite Marsh & Miriam Dotson, numerous nieces & nephews especially Sandy Smith, daughter Robbie Griffin & 2 grand dogs.
He was preceded in death by
his parents Jess & Louise Sullins, his sister Lois Huen, his son Jerry Walker, & his wife of 41 years, Jane Hedrick Sullins.
Services for Jess will be at St Stephen's Episcopal Church in Oxford on March 1, 2025 at 2:00pm. There will be a memorial service followed by visitation in the Parish Hall. Private interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for Jess may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Granville County Animal Control Shelter, or the Oxford Rotary Club.
