Joan W. Cuthriell

Joan Williams Cuthriell 81, of Henderson, NC, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was the daughter of the late Richard Bullock "RB" Williams and Florence Belle Michael Williams. She was the widow of Bryan Lee Cuthriell.

Her infectious laugh and zest for life spread joy and warmth to everyone around her. Her family meant everything to her, and she absolutely adored her puppy, Gracie.

Always active & adventurous, she was always up for a good time. Among her favorite adventures were slumber parties, get-togethers and travelling with her "Golden Girls" sister- friends. "Grandma Camp" trips with her sister, grandchildren and great grandchildren were looked forward to by all each summer. At home, she loved holding court on her back porch with neighbors and friends, better known as the "Back Porch Society" where the world's problems were solved with lots of laughter.

Joan loved life and lived it fully, even sky diving recently with her daughter and the "Golden Girls" brave enough to jump with her. Next up on her list was wrestling an alligator and everyone agreed they'd be happy to watch.

Joan was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Henderson and previously First Baptist Church of Norfolk.

Survivors include one daughter, Bridget Martz (Michael); three grandchildren, B Scott Martz (Megan), Dylan A. Martz (Danielle) and Vance L. Cuthriell; three great grandchildren, Greyson Martz, Ashlynn Martz and Bradley Martz; two sisters, Jane McClanahan (Cliff) and Richie O'Briant (Tom); one daughter-in-law, Jennifer Cuthriell; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Cameron Cuthriell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Conducted by Rev. Allen Mustian and Rev. Bruce Beck. A reception will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rebuilding Hope Inc., 414 Raleigh Road,  Henderson, NC 27536.
